Choose the aquarium's location before filling it. The right spot must support the complete system, suit its operating temperature and leave enough room to maintain it. A convenient empty corner is not automatically a safe aquarium location.
1. Establish the complete filled load
Fresh water weighs approximately 1 kg per litre. That makes 200 litres of water about 200 kg before adding the tank, cabinet, substrate, rocks and equipment. Use the actual component weights and usable water volume: a generic “200 L tank equals 250 kg” estimate may be too low for a particular installation.
Our dimensions, litres and filled-weight guide separates water volume from complete-system dimensions. Record the whole installation footprint in mm, including the cabinet and any equipment projecting behind it.
Do not approve a floor from the tank's litre rating, its distance from a wall or the fact that the building uses concrete. For a heavy installation or any uncertainty, ask building management and a qualified structural professional to assess the actual load and support points. Check access and building requirements before arranging delivery.
2. Follow the tank's support instructions
Use a stand or cabinet intended for the aquarium and its complete load. Confirm the required support pattern, level and stability before adding water. Follow the manufacturer on whether a mat is required; a universal instruction to put foam under every glass tank is not appropriate.
Do not use improvised shims under the glass or assume that household furniture is adequate because it is wide enough. Resolve any unevenness, rocking, damage or uncertain load rating before installation.
3. Check sunlight and room temperature
Look at the proposed location at different times of day. Direct sunlight adds uncontrolled light and heat, so a shaded position away from hot windows is easier to manage. Sunlight can contribute to algae, but it is not the only possible cause.
Check AC airflow as well as heat sources. A direct draught can affect evaporation and temperature, but the effect depends on the actual room and system. Use a thermometer to establish the aquarium's operating range instead of assuming every Dubai apartment behaves the same way.

4. Reserve maintenance and access space
- Measure doorways, lift openings, turns and the final route, not only the wall where the aquarium will stand.
- Leave room to lift or remove the lid and light and reach the water for routine work.
- Allow the clearance required for pipes, filter valves, cabinet doors and servicing.
- Plan where the bucket, siphon and removed equipment will go during maintenance.
- Keep the setup clear of doors, unstable furniture and places where it may be knocked.

5. Plan power without splash exposure
Electrical connections must be protected from water and accessible for safe isolation. Follow the equipment instructions for cable routing and drip loops. Do not position a power strip where a leak, spill or running cable can wet it. Ask a qualified electrician about any unsuitable socket or circuit; this placement guide is not electrical or structural approval.
Final checklist
- The complete load and floor suitability are established.
- The stand and base support match the manufacturer's requirements.
- The position avoids direct sun and disruptive heat or draughts.
- The delivery route and maintenance clearances have been measured.
- Power and spill risks have been addressed.
