This product does not remove ammonia; it only converts toxic ammonia (NH3) into a non-toxic form (NH4⁺) that is safe for fish. Therefore, the total ammonia nitrogen (TAN = NH3 + NH4⁺) is not reduced. Keep in mind that standard test kits also measure TAN, not just free ammonia (NH3). As a result, test readings will not drop significantly after using this product, even though the harmful part has been neutralized. The actual removal of ammonia happens only when beneficial bacteria in the biological filter are working properly.

I have been using many big brands for my 2 aquarium. I have a one gold fish tank with 18 gold fishes but 2 filters, one top filter and one Fluval canister filter with lots of Biomedia of Api, matrix, denitrate, purigen, etc. But sometimes the ammonia level does increase and tank starts stinking. But with this Api Ammo lock in 2 days everything is under control and the smell also goes away.
