It is 45 °C outside. Suggesting you buy a heater for your fish tank sounds like a joke. But your aquarium does not live outside — it lives in your living room, and your living room is air-conditioned to 22–24 °C every single day of the year. The AC paradox

What chronic 22 °C actually does to a 27 °C fish
Nothing dramatic — and that is exactly the trap. A tropical fish held a few degrees cold does not die on Tuesday. Instead:

Small tanks need it most

Beginners assume small tanks are the easy version. Thermally, it is exactly backwards. Choosing, sizing, using
- Size at roughly 1 watt per litre for an air-conditioned room. The heater only ever needs to lift the tank a handful of degrees above the room — this is not a cold-country application.

Common questions
Should I turn the heater off at night? No — night is precisely when the room is coldest and the AC or open windows do their work. It is on a thermostat; it costs nearly nothing when the water is warm enough. The same leave-the-life-support-running logic as the filter: the safer answer.
Do I need it in summer? If the room is air-conditioned to 22–24 °C — yes. The heater does not know it is July; it only knows the water is 23 °C and the dial says 26.
